Devils Tower, Wyoming

Devils Tower was proclaimed the 1st National Monument by Teddy Roosevelt in 1906.

About 60 million years ago molten magna was forced into sedimentary rocks above it. As it cooled underground, it contracted and vertical cracks formed to generate 6 sided columns, each about 6 ft. in diameter at the base and 4 at the top.

The tower rises very near vertically for 867 feet from its base, the top being 5117 ft. above sea level.

Its top is an elliptical shape, 180 x 300 feet, and is an extinct volcanic cone.

We took the time to walk the base, about 1.3 miles and took many very hi quality pictures, too much to show here.

5000 climbers scale the tower each year, we counted 11 today.
