Welcome to Yellowstone National Park, WY.

"FOR THE BENEFIT AND ENJOYMENT OF THE PEOPLE" created by Act of Congress   March 1, 1872.

Yellowstone National Park was established as the 1st national park in 1872.

The park contains over 2,200,000 acres (mostly in Wyoming) and was formed by an volcanic earthquake, about 600,000 years ago, which produced 240 cubic miles (about 6x6x6 miles) of material.

Elevations vary from 5282 to 11,358 ft. above sea level and include 110 waterfalls.

794,000 acres of the park were devistated by fire in 1988 but nature is currently recovering. I have little doubt that nature will repair the flora and fauna long before man repairs the roads in the northern part of the park, they are a disgrace.
