Badlands National Park, SD

The badlands of South Dakota are wide spread throughout the state, but this area is specifically is called the Badlands and in Badlands National Park was our destination. The park contains 240,000 acres. Indians avoided this hostile area as it wouldn't support their crops.

A shallow sea covered this land 75 million years ago. Fossils of sea life abound in the exposed layers of deposits.

Colors abound, each layer characterized by differing land conditions at the time of sedimentation.

During our overnight stay the storm you see brewing hit us with tremendous force.

Although parked in a camp on level ground, the motorhome shook dramatically, to the point where it was scarry!

After the night storm, a calm morning welcomed us to continue our journey.

Black Hills, SD.
